Spain & The Pyrenees

May 2023

Fully Booked
11 days of glorious Spring touring across Spain and then dancing in and out of the French/Spanish border through the Pyrenees

Not a motorway in sight with 1300 miles of twisty mountain roads. We will spend some time on classic biking roads like the N260 as well as other less busy mountain passes and roads I've discovered through experience. Taking in Pamplona, famous for the running of the bulls every year, we'll have a rest day in Ripoll, located at the confluence of the rivers Ter and Freser, where you can take take a little time off the bike to enjoy the town, swim or hike or just relax with a coffee and a Fundador.

For those who would like to, there will be a little jaunt-ette to the Montserrat Monastery, seventy twisty miles away, high in the mountains. It's a stunning complex and a great day trip to look round the Abbey, the funicular to the top of the mountain and a short hike to the very summit are well worth the effort and the roads there and back a a lot of fun too.

The price you see is the price you pay, it includes single use of cabins and hotel rooms, no hidden extras.

"This eleven day tour takes advantage of the May Bank Holiday and the extra Coronation Bank Holiday, so that six of the ten full days are either weekends or Bank Holidays, you could work all day Friday the 28th and then meet up in Portsmouth for the 21.30 sailing, only four days off work needed!"

Itinerary / Locations

Day 1
Meet in Portsmouth for a 21.30 ferry sailing to Bilbao.
Day 2
Relax on board the ferry, a "get to know you" session and briefing for the coming days.
Day 3
Arrive in Bilbao at 08.00 for a full day's riding to Pamplona. Within twenty minutes of leaving the Port we will be in the twisties!
Day 4
Leaving the city behind, we will head off south-east, back into the mountains then out east towards our hotel near Navarri.
Day 5
Today we take "The Road Less Travelled", eschewing the usual routes, we head off on some hidden gems, to test your nerve and skills, finishing in Ripoll, the Provincial Capital and a beautiful town. We will be here for two nights.
Day 6
A chance to rest and mull over the previous days riding. For those who would like to, there will be a ride to Montserrat Monastery, about 70 miles each way. It is a stunning huge mountain top complex and well worth a visit and the ride there and back is good too.
Day 7
After your day of taking it easy, (or not), we turn westward and up into the Pyrenees proper, with 160 miles of delicious twisties through the mountains, finishing the day at Luchon, actually a collective name for a group of three villages. This is one of my favourite parts of the trip. If you need invigorating you can visit the "Parc Thermal" and take the waters.
Day 8
Today we will be in France all day, swinging past Lourdes then on to our hotel in Arette.
Day 9
Keep your passport handy today, we will be crossing the French and Spanish borders several times on a 175 miles of real mountainous terrain, breath-taking roads and views.
Day 10
Depending on what the group want, we can make an early start and head towards Bilbao via some lovely ,mountain roads or take a shorter, faster route on main roads to board our ferry, sailing at 14.00.

We will have 24 hours to relax and discuss the previous ten days as we sail to Portsmouth, arriving around 17.30, in time to make it home to watch the Coronation Highlights and prepare for the next week back at work. Maybe need to book another tour with Life is a Ride!
